Then suddenly he realized that it weren't his fellow villagers who were approaching.
No, whatever it was it also possessed magic and a lot of it.
Drano picked up his staff and a lantern, and wend outside to see who or what it was and if it would be thread to him or the villagers, for whom he felt responsible even if they would kill him if they found out how he protected them.
Using a simple spell he traced his target to the west and quickly reached the edge of the forest that surrounded the small village. Immediately he felt his power grow, since his was the power of nature itself.
He went on still tracking his target with the help of his magic till he reached the edge of a swamp. There he saw the source of his worries: an other magician dressed in robes as black as the night itself performing some kind of ritual. The other mage had on his turn also felt Drano approach and now turned to face him.
Drano felt the immense power of the other, when they exchanged glances. Suddenly he realized that this was a mage who had embraced the power of Death, a necromancer, and as such was his mortal enemy.
Finally the necromancer broke the silence: "So there you finally are druid, I've been expecting you since I walked into your territory.....".
Drano answered: " Is that the reason you're here ?" To challenge me ?"
"Challenge you ?? No my dear druid I'm here to kill you."
Drano quickly gathered the power of the forest around him and was just in time to deflect the spell the necromancer threw at him. Again he realized the power the other had, since the spell almost got to him through all of his defenses. Stumbling back, he heard the necromancer sneer: "What's the matter old man ??
Is the power of Codrak to much for you ?"
Drano didn't waste his breath on a reply. It was true, he was old, but that didn't mean he was helpless......
In pure power he knew he had no chance, the necromancer could probably stop the strongest spell he could muster without even breaking a sweat. So he decided to try a different approach: tapping into the power of the forest he summoned a flock of mosquitos and sent them towards his enemy. Distracted as the necromancer was, his spell failed and the dead he had just tried to summon simply sunk back into the muddy swamp. Furious about this, the necromancer gathered all the power he had and sends it hurdling towards Drano.
Only to find it shooting back at him, reflected by a shield of mist created by a simple mirrorspel, even a young apprentice could cast if he knew how. When the charred corpse of the necromancer slowly sank away into the swamp, Drano slowly walked back to his home wondering why some people only wanted to posses power while knowledge often proofed to be a so much stronger weapon....................
